Greenfields is our flagship initiative, a transformative rural and agricultural development plan that empowers smallholder farmers and promotes Africa's agricultural competitiveness on a global scale. We are dedicated to revolutionising the agricultural sector by addressing systemic inefficiencies in the value chain, fostering resilient ecosystems, and establishing Africa as a global leader in sustainable trade. We have implemented digital and inclusive supply chains connected to sovereign trade corridors backed by capacity building and policy reform.

The Problem

The agricultural sector in Africa is held back by outdated systems and practices. Smallholder farmers face low productivity, limited financing, and exclusion from profitable markets. Inefficient agricultural value chains and the escalating threat of climate change to food security pose significant risks, preventing farmers from connecting to regional and global markets.

Our Approach

Our approach to Greenfields is a comprehensive process that goes beyond simple product design to build sustainable, resilient ecosystems.

• Systems Innovation: We apply a Systems Innovation approach to understand the complex interdependencies within the agricultural value chain. This allows us to address the root causes of systemic challenges.
• Grassroots Research & Human-Centred Design: We co-create solutions directly with farmers, cooperatives, governments, and trade bodies through grassroots research and human-centred design.
• Service & Platform Design: We design user-friendly platforms that empower farmers with data, tools, and market connections, establishing a seamless export framework for connecting them to international markets.
• Strategic Collaboration: We work closely with traditional leaders to ensure secure land use and long-term community benefits.

Our work on the Greenfields Export Framework is a testament to this, empowering African producers in global trade through a scalable model that connects smallholder farmers to international markets via certified supply chains and inclusive ownership.

Our Vision

Through Greenfields, we envision a future where Africa’s agricultural sector is not only resilient but also a global leader, driven by sustainable, women-led agro-processing and climate-smart agriculture. We see a future where every individual has access to opportunities that enable them to thrive and contribute to a prosperous and resilient continent. Our next step is to launch and scale the Greenfield's digital platform regionally, integrating additional financial products and expanding farmer participation.
